Educating Students from 6 weeks old through the 8th Grade

About Us

Why St. Mary Catholic School?

In 1867, St. Mary’s School had its humble beginnings in the back of St. Mary’s Church where mothers volunteered to teach classes to the youth of the parish. Through the years, as Alabama’s oldest private school, St. Mary’s has been a beacon of faith and academics throughout the state. Our current Principal, Debbie Ollis, was awarded Principal of the Year by the National Catholic Education Association in 2014. We have a myriad of programs designed to meet each student’s individual needs; from an excellent Resource Department for those needing extra help, to our Marian Honors Program designed to challenge our academically gifted students.

The Catholic Faith is interwoven throughout all subjects and classes and is an integral part in the success of St. Mary Catholic School today. Students attend Mass weekly, go to Adoration, act out Living Stations of the Cross, participate in an Advent Nativity Play, as well as daily instruction about the tenets of the Catholic Faith. Something Beautiful for God is our service program in which students raise money for the needy, conduct clothing and food drives, and learn to live out Christian Charity.
